Training Topic: Global Energy Transition and Its Impact on Nigeria's Future Oil and Gas Revenue

Participants: Central Bank of Nigeria / Petroleum Technology Development Fund / Ministry of Finance

The program was designed to help policymakers and finance leaders understand the revenue and fiscal risks Nigeria faced as global energy systems shifted, and to explore credible response options.

Key areas I covered included:

  • What the global energy transition meant in practical terms (demand shifts, policy pressure, financing constraints)

  • How these trends could affect Nigeria’s oil and gas revenues, foreign exchange inflows, and fiscal stability

  • Scenario thinking: baseline vs accelerated transition outcomes and their implications

  • Strategic policy and finance responses: diversification, investment prioritisation, and risk buffers

  • What decision-makers needed to monitor: leading indicators, market signals, and policy triggers

The session helped participants connect global trends to Nigeria’s fiscal and macro realities, strengthening their ability to plan, stress-test assumptions, and make better strategic decisions around revenue sustainability.
